NEW! SignOn.com Support for Google Apps

Ashish Jain and David Waite, our labs and SignOn.com guru's, recently released a new version of SignOn.com. Ashish does a great job explaining a recent release of SignOn.com on his blog, so I'll blatantly copy some of that material here for distribution.

SignOn.com has had support for OpenID and Information Cards for some time. With the latest release however, we've added support for SAML by leveraging our own federation server, PingFederate 5.x.

To demonstrate what the addition of PingFederate provides with the addition of SAML, we've integrated SignOn.com with Google Apps (which has been SAML enabled for some time now). Google Apps is a service from Google that features applications for mail, calendaring, docs etc.

New Capabilities

Add Google Apps services to your SignOn.com account (e.g. you can have an email address like joe@signon.com that’s hosted by Google Apps).

Single Sign-On to Google Apps via your SignOn.com credentials (username/password or Information cards). Your username for Google Apps will be the same as your user name for SignOn.com. For example, if your SignOn.com username is joe, your email address will be joe@signon.com.

INSTRUCTIONS: Adding SSO for Google Apps for your account

1. Login to SignOn.com (register if you don’t have an existing account).
2. Go to My Profile tab and make sure that you have your firstname and lastname populated (we need this information to create your Google Apps Account).
3. Go to My Accounts Tab.
4. Scroll down and you will see ‘Partner Accounts’. Click Add. This will enable your account with Google Apps.
5. Go to the home page again. And you should see another link e.g.@signon.com. Click on this and this will take you to your mailbox.
6. For the first time access, you will have to go through Google CAPTCHA to complete the registration process with Google Apps.

For future access, you can either go to your SignOn.com home page and click on Google Apps links (IdP initiated SSO). Or you can access Google App services directly by going to the following URLs, and it will redirect you to SignOn.com for authentication (SP initiated SSO).
