About PingFederate Web Services
Applications depend on user identity to protect critical resources, generate audit trails for regulatory compliance, and support identity-based functionality. Until recently, Web services and SOAs have lacked standards-based mechanisms for extending user identities to Web services. Consequently, implementing these important functions has been difficult, if not impossible, without introducing proprietary application-level extensions that breach Web services principals and introduce questionable security.
PingFederate Web Services (formerly PingTrustā¢) is a Security Token Server that extends Identity Management to Web services. With PingFederate Web Services, an optional add-on module for PingFederate, standards-based digital identity tokens are associated with Web service requests to provide enhanced services while simultaneously ensuring appropriate information access and regulatory accountability.
PingFederate Web Services includes libraries for integration with both Java and .NET Web Service Clients and Providers. It supports a variety of security token formats including SAML, X.509, username and Kerberos. It also includes a custom token SDK, enabling organizations to support their pre-existing custom token formats. PingFederate Web Services features a secure, Web-based administration console designed to simplify initial setup, certificate management and configuration of complex use cases. It is a high performance server with support for advanced clustering and failover configurations.
What's new in 2.7
PingFederate Web Services provides JBoss Security Interceptors to handle Web Service Security (WSS) processing for either a Web Service Client (WSC) or Web Service Provider (WSP). The Interceptors trap Web service requests and perform STS processing with minimal or no impact to the WSC or WSP. This release adds support for JAX-WS to the existing JAX-RPC capabilities.
JAX-WS, the Java API for XML-based Web services and successor to JAX-RPC, provides improvements that ease the development of Web services and better integration between the Web services specifications. The new JAX-WS handler leverages enhancements such as the use of annotations, which allow easier integration with Web service applications and application servers.
PingFederate Web Services 2.7 also incorporates changes which allow it to interoperate with Security Token Services (STSs) from other vendors.
